Dusshera is celebrated in with great enthusiasm and excitement at ISKCON Dhanbad with many expected to join us in the festivities.
The word Dusshera comes from the word `dus` meaning `ten’ and `hara`, meaning `annihilated`, referring to the destruction of the
ten-headed Ravana. As explained in the above video clip, the festival marks the victory of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Rama,
over this demonic king and the subsequent rescue of Lord Rama’s wife Sita.
This pastime appears in the great epic Ramayana, which will be enacted by the temple’s youth group, Pandava Sena. At the drama’s climax, with the final arrow shot by Lord Rama, a huge effigy of Ravana will burst into flames. As it is reduced to ashes and the smoke bellows, spectators are reminded not succumb to the dictates of lust, anger, greed and envy.
